Helianthus
Young sunflowers orient themselves in the direction of the sun. At dawn the head of the flower faces east and moves west throughout the day.
Their heliotropic motion is a circadian rhythm, synchronised by the sun. Heliotropism is the diurnal or seasonal motion of plant parts (flowers or leaves) in response to the direction of the sun.
Although young flower buds exhibit this behaviour, the mature flowering heads point in a fixed (and typically easterly) direction throughout the day.
Shot on 8mm film.
